Contact John Morrish

This site is really an online business card so people can contact me.

I am a journalist by trade. I live in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK. You can contact me by emailing mail@johnmorrish.com or telephoning +77 8851 5387. I work from home. This is where I live: 2 Priory Mews, Sidney Street, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL52 6DJ, UK. Note that if you are visiting you will find parking quite difficult.

If you want to know more, I have an ancient CV at LinkedIn. I don’t like LInkedIn, and it has not brought me a single offer of interesting paying work in the many years I have been using it. I was briefly banned from it, but instantly reinstated when I stated my case, something I achieved by contacting the Press Office. I only keep it on because I like Jaron Lanier, one of its creators. I believe him to be on the side of the angels, or possibly the Angels, judging by his hair.

When I get round to it I will add more of the material I’ve been working on over the last couple of years, or some more of my Greatest Hits.

I started in journalism in 1980. Now I enjoy writing fiction and non-fiction. I edit and I lead writers’ groups. I also love films: the blurry image is from White God (2014), directed by Kornél Mundruczó. I do lots of other things. I like talking about the things I do and am very approachable. Possibly too much so.

I am weaning myself off social media. A little book called 10 Arguments For Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now by Jaron Lanier has been a great influence on me this year. If you don’t have time for a little book, let me sum it up. The real argument is that social media as it currently works is a bad thing. For an explanation of that, you need a much longer book, called The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshona Zuboff. It’s gigantic and she repeats herself rather a lot, but its central idea is irresistible. Get it from somewhere other than Amazon.

So far I have deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I do not use TikTok. Next I intend to tackle the Google empire. I’m sure they are shaking in their shoes.
